A day in the heart of medieval Alsace

The Alsace Wine Route Royal Tour is our signature itinerary. In a single day, your private chauffeur takes you to the three jewels that made Alsace famous: the fortress of Haut-Kœnigsbourg, the wine town of Ribeauvillé and the classified village of Riquewihr, without ever worrying about parking.

Moreover, the chauffeur-driven format changes everything. You explore each site at your own pace, your driver waits for you on site, then takes you to the next stop. This comfort is especially appreciated in high season when parking lots in the Wine Route villages are saturated from mid-morning.

Departing from Strasbourg, Colmar, Sélestat or Barr, allow approximately 6 hours to fully experience this tour. The itinerary is entirely customisable according to your wishes, energy and the day's weather. This Alsace Wine Route tour is aimed as much at first-time visitors to Alsace as at those wanting to revisit their favourite villages in complete serenity.

Your tour itinerary step by step

1

Haut-Kœnigsbourg Castle

A medieval fortress perched at 755 metres, restored at the beginning of the 20th century by order of Emperor Wilhelm II. The 360° view encompasses the Alsace plain, the Vosges and the Black Forest. It is the most visited monument in the region, with half a million visitors each year. Your driver drops you as close as possible to the entrance, sparing you the long walk from the lower parking lots.

2

Ribeauvillé, medieval wine town

Dominated by three castles, the paved Grande Rue runs through the town between half-timbered houses and renowned cellars. It's the ideal stop for lunch in a traditional winstub. Ribeauvillé is also known for its Festival of Minstrels and its famous wine estates, perfect for a tasting midway through the tour.

3

Hunawihr and its stork village

A remarkable 15th-century fortified church in the middle of the vineyards, surrounded by the Grand Cru Rosacker. An intimate stop away from the crowds, between two major stages. The nearby stork reintroduction centre is especially popular with families travelling with children.

4

Riquewihr, most beautiful village of Alsace

Listed as one of France's most beautiful villages, Riquewihr has preserved its ramparts and 16th-century Renaissance houses. It is the most photographed village in all Alsace. Its flower-filled lanes, the Dolder tower and artisan shops make a memorable finale, especially in late afternoon when the light gilds the facades.

💡 Bon à savoir

The castle is open every day except January 1st and December 25-26. In summer, early morning access is recommended to avoid crowds.

Preparing your tour

How much time to allow

This Alsace Wine Route tour is best enjoyed as a full day, around 6 hours. However, it remains flexible: a half-day allows you to focus on the castle and one village, while a full day leaves time for lunch and a tasting. The pace always adapts to your wishes.

Best season

The tour is enjoyable year-round. Spring and autumn offer soft light and spectacular vineyards, golden in October. Summer is magnificent, provided you start early. Winter has its charm with the Christmas markets of Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr, among the most authentic in Alsace.

From which town to depart?

We pick you up anywhere in Alsace. The departure point simply affects the initial driving time; the core of the tour remains the same. Wherever you stay, your day begins at your door.

Why experience this tour with a chauffeur

The Wine Route passes through magnificent villages, but its narrow roads and limited parking quickly turn the day into a parking hunt. In high season, circling to park in Riquewihr or at the foot of Haut-Kœnigsbourg can cost half an hour at each stop. With a chauffeur, this problem disappears entirely.

You also retain total freedom. You are neither on a group bus nor subject to a fixed schedule. Extend a tasting you enjoy, shorten a less inspiring stop, or add an impromptu photo stop. Your driver knows the best viewpoints, quality family cellars and the times to avoid crowds.

Finally, it's the most serene option for wine lovers. Taste the great Alsace wines without any worry about the return journey. This is often the primary reason our clients choose this Alsace Wine Route tour rather than a rental car.
