Wissembourg is the northernmost town in Alsace, on the German border. Its abbey church, its half-timbered houses above the Lauter and the memory of King Stanislas make it a stop apart. Elsass VTC takes you there from Strasbourg, Haguenau or the airport — door to door, with no changes — and waits for you during the visit.

Why choose a VTC in Wissembourg?

The edge of Alsace, door to door
Wissembourg is about 55 minutes from Strasbourg and 60 minutes from Strasbourg-Entzheim airport. Your chauffeur picks you up at your address and drops you at the foot of the abbey church: a single journey, with no connection or parking to find.

A tasting on the border
The Cleebourg vineyard is about fifteen minutes away. With a chauffeur waiting outside, no one at the table has to count their glasses or watch the time for the return.
The must-sees

The must-sees of Wissembourg

The Saints-Pierre-et-Paul church
The last remnant of the abbey founded in the 7th century, it is the second largest Gothic building in Alsace after Strasbourg Cathedral. Must-see: the Romanesque square tower and the monumental fresco of Saint Christopher, 11 metres high.
The Bruch and the Lauter
The town's former marsh has become a district of half-timbered houses built above the water, linked by footbridges. It is the prettiest district to explore on foot, preferably early in the morning.
The Maison du Sel
This 15th-century house stands on the edge of the Lauter, between the town hall and the church. It was used for collecting the gabelle, the salt tax.
King Stanislas in Wissembourg
Stanislas Leszczynski, king of Poland in exile, lived here from 1719 to 1725 with his family. Louis XV chose his daughter Marie as his wife: the marriage by proxy was celebrated in Strasbourg on 15 August 1725.
Ramparts and Decapole
Wissembourg became a member of the Decapole, the alliance of the ten free towns of Alsace, in 1354. Remnants of the 13th-century fortifications survive in places around the old town.
The Geisberg and the Westercamp museum
The heights of the Geisberg saw, on 4 August 1870, the first battle of the Franco-Prussian War. The Westercamp museum, in town, tells the story of Wissembourg and its region.
